Default TextField - Embeding additional glyphs

A common question a get very often is: "Your product doesn't display specific characters from my language", where language can be french, turkish, arabic, norwegian and so on.

What you need to do is to follow these simple steps:

1. Open the Library (Ctrl+L), find the symbol with the text field that doesn't display right, and double click to edit

2. Locate the text field, if it's on a layer that is locked, unlock it, and select the text field.

3. With the text field selected, go to the bottom of the window (Flash 8, CS3) and click on the Properties bar.

4. Somewhere on the right you will find the Embed button. Click it and a dialog window will appear.

5. Now you can either add your own characters in the input field or select the glyphs collection you need from the list. You can select multiple by holding the Ctrl key.

6. Hit OK and republish your swf (Shift+F12)

7. If it still doesn't display correctly and you load the text from an external file, make sure the file it is saved with the right character encoding

8. If that doesn't work either, try opening the font file with the Character Map (Start>Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Character Map) program and see if it has the letters you need to display. If those letters aren't visible (you see only squares), you should consider using another font.
